Deep 8 inch Main Repair
St Albans
Works began on a deep 8 inch main that was reported to be loosing a large volume of water each hour. With no visible sign of any water a plan of action was set up by Affinity Water management team to divert the existing main where the leak was suspected to be and connect to an additional main running in close proximity. High tech equipment was used by the leakage management team to pin point the loss of water that in turn was also causing pressure related issues to the surrounding areas.
Focus on supply and minimal disruption was maintained during the entire operation. Reduced site occupancy times and delay to customers and A5 road users.
The main itself sat at just over 3.5 meters in depth and would need full deep excavation set up. The collaboration of services was then brought together to discuss the options available. The redefined collaboration between CLC Utilities, Affinity Water, McFadden’s Ltd & Jim Webb established fast track delivery of the works. Combined multi-skilled, highly qualified personnel concentrated in one zone maximised efficiency, significantly reducing cost and delivery time.
Joint factual pre-evaluation and Gatekeeping of the works and detailed planning resulted in:
SHEQ teams worked skilfully and efficiently delivering the highest level of safety regulations. We used our Circular Economy techniques which allow us to efficiently reuse and up-cycle materials from the dig site to backfill following the repair, resulting in the following lean benefits:
The deployment of our Vacuum Excavation Technology, and Patriot Valve innovation minimised disruption to the end user and maintained expedient safe excavation of the works.
