The Stroud Sewerage Strategy

The Stroud Sewerage Strategy is a major investment by Severn Trent which is required to overhaul of the existing sewer network by installing almost 3.5km of enlarged sewer pipe, separating surface water from the sewage network, creating additional storage with smart controls to hold stormwater back during large storm events before returning it to the treatment works when the rainfall has subsided, and making improvements to Stanley Downton Sewage Treatment Works.

The Challenge

CLC were employed by Galliford Try on behalf of Severn Trent to complete the Large Diameter open cut section of works from the main shaft to Headwall.

The need to deliver the project at speed and to high standards were paramount, and CLC's track record and experience was seen as a key differentiator to meet the challenges of the project.

Having experienced health and safety concerns on site with a previous contractor, Galliford Try engaged CLC to undertake the required works.

The Solution

Installation of 1km of 900mm large diameter rising sewage mains – at a depth of 6.5m up to 2.5m

GT had originally employed another contract to carry out the works, however, had to remove them from site due to health and safety concerns – CLC were then approached and contracted to carry out the works.
