Deep Excavation Affinity Water
Much Hadham
A burst main required us to complete a deep excavation, repair and backfill at Widford Road in Much Hadham. This is a rural road with just one lane in each direction. Despite its rural location, this road is important in the area. The site was situated fully within one lane. This required us to close the road securely using barriers and use temporary diversion methods.
We therefore needed to work quickly to complete the excavation, locate the problem main, repair and reinstate. Our Turnkey Trailer Teams were dispatched so that we could work more quickly and efficiently without having delays as new teams came on site, or compromises to H&S. They worked to quickly make a safe site, including creating a pedestrian access across a grass area, ensuring vulnerable customers were well cared for. We also erected lighting so that work could be completed out-of-hours as well, minimising the impact on the local community.
Owing to the depth of the excavation, it was of paramount importance to use Safe Dig techniques to prevent heave or subsidence. This way we could ensure the safety of our workers reaching the pipe and working on the area once the water was pumped out. We completed the repair quickly and efficiently. We are pleased to have recorded Zero Harm for this project.
We used our Circular Economy techniques which allow us to efficiently reuse and upcycle materials from the dig site to backfill following the repair. This not only ensured that reinstatement was fast as well as of high standard, but that we were able to reduce the cost for the customer too. This was a perfect example of our Turnkey Solution adding value to the customer.
